Conscious labor in the Teachings makes conscious levels of relationship possible.

Maurice Nicoll offers a short talk on relationship. “Relationship depends on Attitude: attitude towards oneself, towards life, including other people, and attitude towards the universe.” Commentaries, p1055 The last one—attitude towards the Universe—is the determining factor. 

Why is this so? Because the Wisdom Teachings describe a created Universe, descending in a scale of meaning from the Creator/Absolute/Origin, through levels of partial meaning. This puts individual humans also on the scale of meaning—levels of Being—from the mechanical sleeping circle of humanity to the Conscious Circle of Humanity. Our conscious labor in valuing the Teachings makes it possible to raise our level of Being and also makes conscious relationship possible. 

“When two people are trying to make relationship through a common understanding of the Work, it will be quite certain that they will find the right way both to behave and act towards one another. In other words, the Work will show them what to do. There is a phrase sometimes used: the Work will find a way. But this applies only to those who work on themselves.” Commentaries, p1056 

Maurice goes on to say that love is canceling all debts. The Teachings are about transcending a situation by working at a higher level. Commentaries, p1057
