Divine Permeation

God is a dyer; the good dyes, known as genuine, become one with the materials that they permeate. This is how God acts. He gives his own colors to his dyes, the colors of immortality. Thus he baptizes us in water.

The Dyer

Orientation

There is a dyer
whose Good dyes permeate.
The color and the cloth
become one thing.

Morning Alignment

I lower what I carry
into the only vat there is.
Let the dye be genuine.
Let it go all the way through.
Whatever this day colors,
let it hold.

Evening Release

Seventy-two colors
entered the vat today.

What tightened, what resisted,
what opened without asking —
all of it submerged
in the same heat.

The dyer works the whole cloth.
I rest now,
