“A state of greater objective presence is also the curricular foundation of the Wisdom School is the Gurdjieff notion of three-centered awareness, or as he often calls it, three-brained awareness. The assertion here is that human beings have not simply a single system of intelligence in them, but actually three major centers. There is certainly the intelligence of the intellectual center, but this is joined by the intelligence of two other centers: the moving center and the emotional center. “The teachings on the heart are profoundly true and beautiful. But they need to be grounded, because the heart doesn’t exist in an amniotic sack in outer space. And the tendency to separate it out and try and collect all the spiritual energy in your heart, if you don’t have it grounded in something that goes all the way down, it either superficializes itself or it fries you. It pushes you inevitably towards ecstasy rather than instancy, unless it can get grounded in something more. And it was amazing to me to discover that this is, of course, known and the teaching was there, but it hasn’t been fully brought forward in the spirituality of the heart, where the big mistake is to try and approach the heart in isolation, pitted against the mind.
